Submission Guidelines
Subject to change at any time without notice.
I (Jesse Tovar) solicit (approach) authors to be on Mobile Data Mag on Substack and on Systemic Dreaming on Threads. These digital literary journals are theme-less. However, if you stumble across this newsletter-style website, and you would like to be published in Mobile Data Mag, please email me. My email is jertovar@yahoo.com. If you stumbled across this via a literary magazine database, you will get a response within a few months. There is NO fee to submit. Donations are welcome, but that does not guarantee submission acceptance.
For Systemic Dreaming on Threads, poetry and prose submissions MUST be 500 characters or less. If the 500 character submission is too formatically unique, it will be altered to fit Threads parameters. Systemic Dreaming submissions can be sent via Threads DM where one DM is the submission, one DM is the title (if the piece is super close to 500 characters), and the other DM or two is your name with a 500 character or less 3rd-person bio. You can email your submission for Systemic Dreaming if that is your preference.
For Mobile Data Mag on Substack, there is NO word limit for prose submissions. That is the rule, until I find out for myself what is truly Substack’s word and character capacity.
Substack has specific marginal parameter settings for poetry, so if the poem is too formatically unique or too long for the platform, Cinnamoroll (Associate Editor) and I will plan accordingly and alternatively. As of February 2025, poems must be no longer than 90 lines each (including stanza breaks). Be mindful with long-winded lines too or else Substack will format it automatically.
Translations of poetry and prose by other authors are welcome, as long as I know you translated it! You also must have the blessing of the author you are translating or the blessing of the author’s estate (referring to authors who have passed away) before submitting. Examples of what I am talking about can be found on Substack and Threads.
Mobile Data Mag and Systemic Dreaming, like most literary journals, prefers unpublished writing. Previously published writing is accepted as long as Mobile Data Mag and/or Systemic Dreaming is notified about that. All writing that has been published elsewhere before will have a note at the end of the poem or prose piece. In the event new work(s) published by Mobile Data Mag and/or Systemic Dreaming are reprinted in collections, etc., Mobile Data Mag and Systemic Dreaming asks to be credited as the site wherein the work first appeared.
Simultaneous submissions are welcome, ONLY if the author has a vision for the piece to be published in a print publication. Mobile Data Mag/Systemic Dreaming asks to be credited as the site wherein the work first appeared, when it's accepted in a print publication.
ALL submissions cannot contain problematic rhetoric such as anti-Palestinian language, pro-I.C.E. rhetoric, hate speech, racist content, sexism, LGBTQ+phobia, etc. Mobile Data Mag is a readable safe space.
Preferably, a single submission (one for Substack, one for Threads (unless sent via Threads DM (must send 2-4 DMs for submission)) one for short translation, one for long translation) should be sent in a doc. file, especially when pieces afterward, are for consideration for nominations to award anthologies. Your email should also include your short bio (Threads bio must be 500 characters or less). In other words, no more than 1-4 submissions per year!
For any reason a submission cannot be sent in a doc. file, please contact Mobile Data Mag via email, and we will plan accordingly and alternatively.
If your submission contains more than one piece, Cinnamoroll may forward your other piece(s) to other literary journals/magazines him and I partner with on other endeavors, as long as we have a dialogue and blessing. You will get compensated upon publication in a timely manner from Mobile Data Mag, unless payment is declined by you.
You will be notified of acceptance and publication within a month or two, unless you discovered this from a database site, etc. We appreciate your patience.
As of 2025, Cinnamoroll and I are carefully monitoring the future of publication on here due to potential persistent setbacks. In the event we cannot move forward comfortably on here, Cinnamoroll and I will archive and all published authors will have free access to those publications.
Archival project now available is Sampler: Year One on our digital book website, Systemic Dreaming Books, https://payhip.com/b/ji4VL , or by contacting Mobile Data Mag/Systemic Dreaming via email.
Before you contact me, please read and enjoy all who have been published here.
